A useful and decorative herb


Slender, lemon-scented, bright green leaves on upright stems and delicate clusters of pale lilac to white late summer flowers. In frost free areas lemon verbena is an ideal specimen for the front of a sunny border. Plant next to paths and entrances where the refreshing, lemon-scented foliage, useful for herb tea and pot pourri, can be fully appreciated.


  • Position: full sun
  • Soil: well-drained, poor, dry soil, or John Innes No2 in a pot
  • Rate of growth: average
  • Flowering period: July to August
  • Flower colour: pale lilac to white
  • Other Features: lemon-scented leaves are useful for making herb tea and pot pourri
  • Hardiness: frost hardy (will need winter protection)
